KHULNA, Sept 29, 2025 (BSS) - Director General (DG) of the Bangladesh
National Nutrition Council (BNNC) Dr Rezwanur Rahman on Monday said that the
upcoming National Nutrition Plan-3 will recommend forming nutrition
coordination committees at the union level.

"Elected representatives must step forward to ensure health services reach at
people's doorsteps," he said, stressing the importance of reducing maternal
and child mortality while improving nutrition among children.

He made the remarks as the chief guest at a learning-sharing meeting,
organised under the Right to Grow project with the District Nutrition
Coordination Committee at the Civil Surgeon's office in Khulna.

Dr. Rahman [DG] pointed out that although rural nutrition programs have
expanded, little progress has been made in cities where 40 percent of
children live. "Urban children are being neglected. We must work everywhere,"
he said.

Khulna Civil Surgeon Dr. Mosammat Mahfuza Khatun presided over the meeting
while Iqbal Azad, consortium team lead, highlighted the activities of the
Right to Grow project.

Project Coordinator Israt Hasan presented the ongoing initiatives of The
Hunger Project in Dumuria Upazila.

BNNC Deputy Directors Dr. Akter Imam and Dr. Farzana Rahman presented
Bangladesh's nutritional scenario, including child profile estimation and
costing model tools.

Union Parishad representatives said forming nutrition coordination committees
at the grassroots would enhance accountability and effectiveness.

BNNC Director Dr. Mohammad Mahbubur Rahman observed that many of the
activities carried out under the project align with BNNC's core
responsibilities, though Union Parishads face manpower and budgetary
constraints.

Prashanta Tripura, country director of The Hunger Project, stressed the
importance of documenting the project's experiences so they can be used as
resources for future initiatives.

BNNC members, Right to Grow partners, and government officials from various
departments were present, among others, at the event.
