Police arrest three frauds in Patiya

CHATTOGRAM, Sept 30, 2025 (BSS) - Police arrested three active members of an inter-district fraud gang in Patiya upazila today. 

Police recovered 20 notes worth 100 Saudi riyals, eight mobile phones used in fraud, and Tk 10,000 in cash from them.

The arrestees are Liaqat Ali Khan, 55, from Sadar Upazila of Gopalganj district, Md. Sohel Beg, 33, from Bhanga Upazila of Faridpur district, and Md. Zahid Khan, also known as Shahid, 45, from the same Upazila. 

According to the police, a member of the gang initially befriended local hardware trader Mohammad Alkas Meah, 63, by pretending to be a peddler in the Madrasa Road area near Ward No. 7 of Patiya Municipality. Subsequently, other members enticed him to sell by showing him Saudi currency. As a result, the gang members swindled TK five lakh from the businessman on September 17 around 3:30 pm.

 The victim reported the case to Patiya Police Station on September 29. Subsequently, the police carried out a special operation and apprehended the suspects. 

 Chattogram District Police Superintendent Md. Saiful Islam Santu stated that those who have swindled people's money will face consequences.
