Indian fireworks seized in Cumilla train operation

CUMILLA, Oct 1, 2025 (BSS) - Bangladesh Border Guard (BGB) members of the Cumilla Battalion have seized a large consignment of illegal Indian fireworks worth over Tk 1.37 crore during a special task force operation at Rasulpur Railway Station in Adarsha Sadar upazila of the district.

Lieutenant Colonel Mir Ali Ejaz, commander of the Cumilla BGB-10 Battalion, confirmed the matter to reporters today.

He said the operation was carried out on Tuesday night (September 30) as part of the BGB's ongoing anti-smuggling drive. 

On secret intelligence, a task force led by BGB 10 Adjutant, was formed comprising members of BGB, police and railway police, he added.

Cumilla Assistant Commissioner as well as Executive Magistrate Md. Sarwar Jahan was present there.

The task force conducted the raid on the Chittagong-bound Karnaphuli Express train at Rasulpur Railway Station, where they recovered 454,400 pieces of various types of Indian fireworks.
 
The consignment was abandoned, and no individual claimed ownership.

The estimated market value of the seized items stands at Tk 1 crore 37 lakh 10 thousand, the BGB commander said, adding that the illegal items have been handed over to the customs authorities for further legal action.
