SUNAMGANJ, Oct 17, 2025 (BSS) – Sunamganj district, surrounded by haors, lags far behind in the overall education system, while the dropout rate of students at the primary level in the district stands at 5.95 percent.

Therefore, the Merit Test-2025 has been introduced to strengthen and advance primary education in the district, with the examination being held simultaneously across the entire district for the first time.

Deputy Commissioner Dr. Mohammad Ilias Mia said this on Thursday afternoon at a press conference held in the conference room of the Deputy Commissioner’s office.

He said that this model had already been implemented on a pilot basis in Shantiganj, with the aim of expanding it across the entire district.

The test will be held simultaneously for fourth and fifth graders in 1,475 government primary schools in the district at 10 am on October 29.

A total of 76,485 students—41,164 in the fourth grade and 35,321 in the fifth grade—from 12 upazilas of the district will participate in the exam.

A four-member committee has already been formed at the upazila level to ensure smooth conduct of the exam.
