RAJSHAHI, Oct 17, 2025 (BSS) - The Shibir-backed Sammilita Shikkharthi Jote panel has secured a sweeping victory in the Rajshahi University Central Students' Union (RUCSU) election-2025, winning 20 out of 23 central posts, including the positions of vice-president and assistant general secretary.
Chief Returning Officer Professor Setaur Rahman announced the official results around 9:30 am today at the university's Kazi Nazrul Islam auditorium. He said the elections were held peacefully in a festive environment.
A total of 20,187 students out of 28,901 eligible voters cast their votes in the polls.
According to the results, Mustakur Rahman Zahid of the Shibir-backed panel was elected Vice-President (VP) by securing 12,887 votes, defeating his nearest rival Sheikh Nur Uddin Abir of the Oikya Badda Notun Projonmo panel, backed by Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal (JCD), who received 3,397 votes.
However, the General Secretary (GS) post went to Salahuddin Ammar, a coordinator of the Anti-Discrimination Students' Movement, who contested from the Adhipatya Birodhi Oikya panel. He secured 11,537 votes, defeating his closest competitor, Fahim Reza of the Shibir-backed panel, who obtained 5,729 votes. Fahim Reza is also a coordinator of the same student platform.
In the Assistant General Secretary (AGS) race, SM Salman Sabbir of the Shibir-backed panel won with 6,971 votes, beating Zahin Biswah Esha of the JCD-backed panel, who bagged 5,941 votes.
This year's RUCSU election saw a total of 903 candidates contesting: 248 for 23 central union posts, 597 for 17 Hall Councils, and 58 for five student representative posts in the University Senate.
In the RUCSU central election, 18 candidates vied for the VP post, 13 for GS, and 16 for AGS.
For Hall Council elections, 61 candidates contested for VP, 58 for GS, and 57 for AGS posts. In the six female halls, 16 candidates each ran for VP and GS posts, while 15 competed for AGS.
A total of 11 student panels participated in the RUCSU, Hall Council, and Senate elections held at Rajshahi University.
