DHAKA, Nov 27, 2025 (BSS) - The Election Commission (EC) has called for full cooperation from all relevant organizations and law-enforcement agencies to conduct the forthcoming 13th national parliament election and referendum in a fair, festive and peaceful atmosphere.
A pre-preparatory meeting, presided over by Chief Election Commissioner AMM Nasir Uddin, was held today at the Nirbachan Bhaban at Agargaon in the capital with top officials from the home ministry and representatives of the Army, Navy, Air Force, Police, BGB, Ansar-VDP, Coast Guard and RAB.
After the meeting, EC Senior Secretary Akhtar Ahmed said, “All the agencies are making every possible effort to ensure a peaceful, acceptable and credible election with the capacity to respond quickly to any situation.”
He reiterated that the EC’s clear message is to maintain a festive, peaceful and fair election, stressing that every agency must perform its duties with responsibility and without compromise.
“No deviation from the code of conduct will be tolerated,” he warned.
To maintain the law and order and prevent misinformation, the EC will form a monitoring cell and a cyber security cell with representatives from various forces and organizations, he said.
Social media will be monitored to identify and prevent rumors, using UNDP’s platform along with support from the Information Ministry, CID and others, he added.
He said each law-enforcement agency will prepare according to its responsibilities, and the EC will immediately inform the media once the election schedule is announced.
“The code of conduct will be strictly enforced from day one,” he assured.
Explaining deployment strategies, he said security will include static center-based teams, mobile patrols, and a central reserve for emergencies.
He said a mobile app developed by NTMC which was used during the immediate past Durga Puja will also be used during the election, along with contingency plans for quick backup response.
“Instructions have been given to recover illegal weapons, deposit legal weapons, increase intelligence surveillance and bring identified criminals under the law,” he said.
Electoral Enquiry Committee members, Judicial and Executive Magistrates will operate in the fields while the military’s magisterial power will remain active until February 28, 2026.
