Swiss envoy urges full, equal role for Bangladeshi women

DHAKA, Nov 27, 2025 (BSS) - Swiss Ambassador to Bangladesh Reto Renggli today 
praised the pivotal role women played in July-August historic uprising and 
expressed hope that Bangladesh's ongoing democratic transition will ensure 
women's full and equal participation in all spheres of national life.

Speaking as Guest of Honour at a dialogue marking the 16 Days of Activism 
Against Gender-Based Violence, the Ambassador reaffirmed Switzerland's 
commitment to preventing violence against women in Bangladesh, said Swiss 
embassy here. 

He highlighted a disturbing global reality: one in three women worldwide 
experiences physical or sexual violence. 

Ambassador Renggli stressed that no faith, community or nation is immune to 
gender-based violence, and preventing it is therefore a collective 
responsibility. 

He underscored the importance of unified action by government, civil society 
and international partners to protect women and girls from all forms of 
abuse.

The event was organised with the support of Switzerland through its 
partnership with the Manusher Jonno Foundation, reflecting the country's 
continued engagement in promoting women's rights, justice and social 
empowerment in Bangladesh.
