Govt approves ACC ordinance to strengthen anti-graft body

DHAKA, Nov 27, 2025 (BSS) - The government today gave approval to the draft of the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) (Amendment) Ordinance 2025, aimed at making the Commission "a more effective organization" and curbing the widespread corruption that escalated during the previous regime.

The Council of Advisers today gave the approval to the ordinance at its weekly meeting at the Chief Adviser's Office (CAO) here with Chief Adviser Professor Muhammad Yunus in the chair.

After the meeting, Chief Adviser's Press Secretary Shafiqul Alam briefed the media at the Foreign Service Academy here this afternoon, saying that according to the new law, the ACC will be constituted with five commissioners, including one woman and at least one or two having IT background.

Explaining the inclusion of commissioners having IT background, he said, "Major corruption today is supported by digital systems. In a cashless society, massive sums can be moved with a single click-no more sacks of cash."

Noting that two further proposals were adopted at the final stage, the press secretary said from now on, the ACC will publish its work reports online every six months, ensuring public transparency and the ACC officers directly involved in anti-corruption investigations must submit their asset statements to their authorities.
