THAKURGAON, Oct 16, 2025 (BSS)- BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir has said people want election to save the country, but a vested quarter is out to delay the polls by giving pressure on the government with various demands.

“People want election to save the country. Yet, some parties are maneuvering to defer it. The Proportional Representation (PR) system is beyond public understanding. Once the election is held and a government is formed, all issues can be discussed in the parliament,” he said.

Fakhrul Islam said this while exchanging views at Danarhat Eidgah ground under Begunbari Union in Thakurgaon Sadar upazila.

Recalling their past efforts for Begum Khaleda Zia’s treatment abroad during the fascist Awami League regime, the BNP Secretary General said, “We had bargained with the previous government to allow her to go abroad for treatment. But Sheikh Hasina said that she would throw her off the Padma Bridge. BNP will win the people’s hearts, not take revenge or retaliation.”

He further said, “There was no fair election under the past fascist regime. None of us could cast our votes or sleep peacefully. At least now, we can sleep properly.”

Highlighting various development activities carried out during the BNP regime in Thakurgaon and across the country, he once again sought votes for the paddy sheaf symbol.

BNP District President Mirza Faisal Amin, General Secretary Poigam Ali, as well as teachers, students, political figures, and people from different walks of life took part with Begunbari Union BNP President S M Abul Kashem Azad in the chair.
