RANGPUR, Oct 25, 2025 (BSS) - As part of rehabilitation and assistance to the families affected by road accidents, grant cheques worth about Taka two crore were distributed today to 41 families of the victims and injured of four districts in Rangpur division.

Bangladesh Road Transport Authority (BRTA) Chairman Abu Momtaz Saad Uddin Ahmed distributed the cheques at a function held at the Deputy Commissioner's conference room in the city as the chief guest.

At this time, grants of Taka five-lakh were given to each of the victim families and Taka three-lakh to each of the injured families.

The distribution of grants is going on step by step under the supervision of BRTA for the families affected by road accidents in different districts and divisions of the country.

In continuation of this, a total of 41 deceased and injured family members from Rangpur, Lalmonirhat, Kurigram and Gaibandha districts were present to receive the grant cheques.

While receiving the cheque of Tk five-lakh, Golapi Begum, who lost her husband in the accident, said that her husband died in a road accident.

"I was having a hard time running my family. Today, with this help from the interim government, it seems like no one has forgotten us," he said in an emotional voice.

At the event, BRTA Chairman Abu Momtaz Saad Uddin Ahmed said that the programme of providing financial assistance to those killed and injured in road accidents started from 2022.

"After I joined, I saw that about Taka 307 crore was unused in our fund. The government has decided that this money will be used for the rehabilitation of the families affected by the accident," he said.

As part of that decision, Taka five-lakh was given to the deceased and Taka three-lakh to the injured in the four districts of Rangpur division today.

Deputy Commissioner Mohammad Rabiul Faisal presided over the event, which was attended by Rangpur BRTA Circle Assistant Director Engineer Md Shafiqul Alam Sarkar and other officials.
