JASHORE, Oct 31, 2025 (BSS) - Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) have arrested an alleged gold smuggler with six gold bars in Jashore.

The detainee was identified as Abu Bakar Siddique, 34, son of Ruhul Amin of Chhoto Anchra village under Sharsha upazila of the district.

The seized gold bars weighing 735 grams with an estimated market value of Taka 1.26 crore.

Lieutenant Colonel Saifullah Siddique, commanding officer (CO) of the BGB Battalion-49 in Jashore, said acting on secret information, a BGB patrol team conducted a drive near Daitola Bridge on Jashore-Narail road around 10:30 am today and arrested Abu Bakar Siddique.

Later, six gold bars were recovered, which had been hidden inside his trouser pocket in a special manner.

During primary interrogation, Siddique confessed that he collected the gold bars from the smugglers in Dhaka's Dholaikhal area and was on his way to Benapole Border to smuggle them into India.

A case has been filed against him and he has been handed over to Jashore Kotwali Police Station, the BGB CO confirmed.
