2 BCL activists arrested for attempting sudden procession in Hathazari

CHATTOGRAM, Oct 31, 2025 (BSS) - Police arrested two activists of the banned Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) for attempting to organize a sudden procession in Hathazari upazila today.

The accused were identified as Md. Arfan, 20, son of Abdullah of Mashua Ghona area and Md. Miraj Uddin, 18, son of Nezam Uddin of Sobhan Sawdagar House in Uttar Madarsha Union.

Hathazari Model Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Manjur Quader Bhuiyan confirmed that the two were apprehended from the Badiul Alam Hat area of Madarsha Union around midnight on Thursday.

The duo was taken into custody and later handed over to the court after a case was filed against them. 

Police said earlier on Thursday night around 9:30 pm, a group of young people led by Md. Shahabuddin, assistant secretary of Chattogram North District Chhatra League, tried to organize the procession in the Badiul Alam Hat area. 

When Faruk, general secretary of the local Sramik Dal, intervened to stop them, the activists reportedly attacked him.

Faruk then called 999 to alert the police, who, with assistance from locals, arrested Arfan and Miraj from their homes around midnight.
