CHATTOGRAM, Nov 1, 2025 (BSS) - Chattogram City Corporation (CCC) Mayor Dr Shahadat Hossain emphasized the importance of changing men's perspectives and mindsets in breast cancer prevention, stressing that everyone must contribute to raising awareness on the issue.
Shahadat Hossain made the remarks during a press conference at a city restaurant this afternoon to wrap up a month-long Breast Cancer Awareness campaign.
He highlighted that breast cancer treatment varies depending on whether the disease has metastasized to other parts of the body.
"If the disease is detected late or at the final stage, the chances of survival are very low. Moreover, the risks and treatment are complex and expensive. The family's financial condition and the man's perspective toward women are important factors in this regard. Therefore, men must be sympathetic, and everyone should play a role in raising awareness to change attitudes and mindsets," he added.
The City Mayor mentioned that one in every eight women worldwide is at risk of breast cancer. If detected early, the cure rate is 95 to 100 percent. Due to Bangladesh's conservative social norms, most women are hesitant to share their breast health concerns.
To raise awareness, a month-long event was organized by the private medical service institution CSCR and the postgraduate surgical education and training institution PGS Academia, with support from Chattogram City Corporation.
The press conference revealed that 702 individuals registered for early detection of breast cancer at CSCR Hospital in the past month. Out of these, 451 received free consultations, leading to the identification of 12 new breast cancer patients, ranging from a 25-year-old woman to a 72-year-old woman.
The Mayor stressed that the goal is to involve the entire society in raising awareness about this critical health issue.
