
KHULNA, Nov 16, 2025 (BSS) - Farmers across the Khulna region are passing busy days with harvesting and threshing transplanted Aman paddy in the hope of achieving higher yields this season.
With bumper production in most areas, growers are smiling. However, they are rushing to bring in crops as quickly as possible to avoid losses from natural calamities.
According to the Department of Agricultural Extension (DAE), Khulna region, the target for transplanted Aman cultivation during the 2025-26 fiscal year in four districts was set at 298,635 hectares. Against the target, Aman paddy was cultivated on 290,342 hectares, achieving 97.2 percent of the set goal. As of Wednesday, harvesting has been completed on 50,603 hectares, or 17.4 percent of the total cultivated land.
Based on field assessments, the region is expected to produce around 859,902 metric tons of rice this season.
Farmers from Dumuria, Dighalia, and several other upazilas said they are working round-the-clock to harvest and thresh Aman paddy amid concerns of sudden rain, which may damage the mature crops.
Tayebur Kazi, a farmer from Kalia upazila in Narail district, said he cultivated Aman on several acres. "Alhamdulillah, production is good this year. Harvesting is almost completed, and threshing is underway. We are worried about unexpected rainfall and are trying to store the crops at home as quickly as possible," he said.
Rabiul, a farmer from Gazirhat in Dighalia upazila, said, "Harvesting is almost done and threshing is going on. As the Aman season ends, we are preparing to cultivate pulses and winter vegetables."
Md Amirul Islam, Sub-Assistant Agriculture Officer at Kalia upazila, said farmers are going through their busiest period with harvesting and threshing activities. To reduce risks from natural disasters, they are advised to store harvested crops promptly and prepare for the next seasonal farming, including oilseed, pulse, and winter vegetables.
Dighalia Upazila Agriculture Officer Kishore Ahmed said the upazila has achieved 100 percent of its target for Aman cultivation and farmers are now engaged in harvesting activities. He also said the BRRI-103 rice variety has gained popularity and shown promising yield potential this season.
DAE Additional Director (Khulna region) Rafiqul Islam expressed satisfaction over this season's cultivation and production progress and hoped the contribution of Aman rice from the Khulna region will play a significant role in the country's food security and economy.
