Bus driver arrested for reckless driving, killing 3 passengers

RANGPUR, Nov 18, 2025 (BSS) - Rapid Action Battalion (RAB)-13 arrested a bus driver from Panchagarh on Monday on charges of reckless driving that killed three passengers in a road accident in Dinajpur on June 14, 2025.

The arrested driver of the bus involved in the incident is Md Hamidul Islam, 45, son of Md Azizul Islam of village Sutipkari under Boda police station of Panchagarh district, a press release said this afternoon.

The release said that the victim, Tamanna Akhter, 25, left for Dhaka from Nabil Paribahan Counter of Bhuli police station in Thakurgaon at 10 pm on June 13, 2025, along with other passengers, on a Dhaka-bound Nabil Paribahan bus.

On the way, the driver was driving the bus at a fast and reckless speed when a mango-laden mini truck hit the bus from behind at 3:15 am on June 14, 2025, at the Nurjahanpur intersection of Ghoraghat police station in Dinajpur district.

Three passengers of the Nabil Paribahan bus, including victim Tamanna Akhtar, were killed and two others were seriously injured in the accident.

Later, the victim's Tamanna Akhter father Md Hashem Ali filed a case at Ghoraghat police station in Dinajpur district in this incident on June 14, 2025. 

On a tip off, a smart team of the RAB-13's Crime Prevention Company (CPC)-1 from Dinajpur Camp and CPC-2 from Nilphamari Camp in a joint raid arrested driver Hamidul Islam from his residence in village Sutipkari of Panchagarh at 1:45 am on Monday.

Later, the arrested accused was handed over to Ghoraghat police station for further legal action, the release added.
