BGB seizes smuggled Indian goods worth Tk 5.5cr in Habiganj

HABIGANJ, Nov 21, 2025 (BSS) - The Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) has seized Indian products valued at approximately Taka 5.5 crore during an operation in Habiganj.

The BGB confiscated the goods from five trucks that were being used for smuggling, concealed under loads of sand and stones.

The seized products include Indian cumin (jira), sarees or cloth, and cosmetics.

The seizure was confirmed by Lieutenant Colonel Tanzilur Rahman,Commander of the BGB’s55 Battalion, during a press briefing heldtoday at the Habiganj BGB officen.

He said that the operation was conducted in Satchhari and thesurrounding areas of Chunarughat Upazila in the district, spanning theperiod from Saturday to Friday morning. The smugglers managed toflee after sensing the operation was underway.

Lieutenant Colonel Rahman also provided details on the broaderefforts, stating that nearly Taka 9 crore worth of smuggled Indiangoods have been seized in various operations conducted during thecurrent month.

Furthermore, 37 individuals have been detained in recentanti-smuggling campaigns.

He highlighted that the BGB employed advanced technology devices toidentify the smugglers and secure the goods. The seized items arecurrently in the process of being submitted to the Customs Office.

He said the BGB’s efforts and operations of thiskind will continue.
