Five illegal brick kilns fined Tk 17 lakh in Sherpur

SHERPUR, Dec 18, 2025 (BSS) - The district administration on Thursday conducted a mobile court drive against five illegal brick kilns in the district and fined them a total of Taka 17 lakh and ordered permanent closure of their operations.

The drive was carried out throughout the day in Sadar and Sribardi upazilas. The day-long drive was led by Assistant Commissioner and Executive Magistrate Shakil Ahmed

According to mobile court sources, several brick kilns in Sadar upazila were operating without permission from the Department of Environment. Legal action was taken against the unauthorized establishments for violating environmental regulations.

During the drive, M/s Al Amin Bricks-2 located in Purba Jhiniya of the upazila was fined Taka 3 lakh. M/s Al Amin Zigzag Bricks-3 of Ramkrishnapur, M/s RH Auto Bricks-1 and M/s Sawda Bricks of Mobarakpur, and M/s Ma Bricks of Indilpur in Sribardi upazila were each fined Taka 3.50 lakh.

Inspector Sushil Kumar Das of the Department of Environment, Sherpur District Office, prosecuted the cases in the mobile court.

Members of the army, police, fire service and the Power Development Board were present during the operation to ensure smooth execution of the drive.

The district administration said such enforcement drives would continue to curb illegal brick kiln operations and protect the environment.
