
MANIKGANJ, Dec. 27, 2025 (BSS) - Ferry operations between Aricha-Kazirhat on the Jamuna river and Paturia-Daulatdia on the Padma river were suspended tonight due to dense fog reducing visibility.
Bangladesh Inland Water Transport Corporation (BIWTC) officials confirmed the matter.
Md Abdullah, manager of Arichaghat, said ferry services on the Aricha-Kazirhat route were halted at 9:30 pm. Two ferries, Bir Shreshtha Hamidur Rahman and Shah Ali, remain at Aricha Ghat, while Dhan Siri is stationed at Kazirhat and Chitra is anchored midstream near Kazirhat.
Meanwhile, Abdus Salam, deputy general manager of Paturia Ghat, said services between Paturia and Daulatdia were suspended from 9:50 pm due to poor visibility caused by thick fog.
At Paturia Ghat, four ferries - Shah Paran, Khan Jahan Ali, Cumilla and Bir Shreshtha Ruhul Amin - are waiting without loading vehicles or passengers.
Six ferries - Bir Shreshtha Jahangir, Vigar, Dhaka, Shah Mokdum, Hasna Hena, and Enayetpuri - remain at Daulatdia Ghat without vehicles or passengers.
Four ferries - Shah Keramat Ali, Golam Maula, Bir Shreshtha Motiur Rahman, and Language Martyred Shaheed Barkat - are anchored mid-river carrying vehicles and passengers.
