Bus helper killed in Minshiganj road accident

MUNSHIGANJ, Jan 9, 2026 (BSS) - A bus helper was killed when the vehicle hit a standing truck amid dense fog on the Dhaka-Mawa Expressway in the district early this morning.

The deceased was identified as Md Tarique Rahman, 35, a helper of Purbasha Paribahan.

The accident occurred around 5:00 am on the Dhaka-bound lane of the expressway near Nimtola Railway Station in Sirajdikhan upazila.

According to Hasara Highway Police Station, the passenger bus hit the back of a freight truck that had been parked on the roadside. The collision badly damaged the front portion of the bus, killing Tarique Rahman on the spot.

Dewan Azad Hossain, station manager of Srinagar Fire Station, said fire service personnel rescued at least 15 passengers who were trapped inside the bus and later sent them to Srinagar Upazila Health Complex for treatment.

ATM Mahmudul Haque, Officer-in-Charge of Hasara Highway Police Station, said the body of the deceased has been kept at the police station. Both the bus and the truck have been seized, and further legal action is underway.
