Meeting on media’s role in ensuring transparent elections held in Kurigram

RANGPUR, Jan 13, 2026 (BSS) - A meeting titled ‘Role of media in ensuring transparent and participatory elections was held at the District Council hall room in Kurigram district town today. 
 
The Rangpur Regional Information Office of PID organised the meeting in collaboration with the Kurigram district administration and District Information Office to hold the 13th Jatiya Sangsad Election and Referendum, 2026 in a fair, transparent and participatory manner. 
 
Deputy Commissioner of Kurigram and District Returning Officer Annapurna Debnath attended the meeting as the chief guest, a press note issued by the Rangpur Regional Office of PID said here this evening.
 
Addressing the event, the Deputy Commissioner said that the administration, law enforcement agencies and the media will work as a complement to each other to ensure free, fair, transparent and participatory elections. 
 
She assured the journalists that the media will perform their duties independently and the administration will stand by them if they face any risk in performing their professional duties. 
 
She also called upon journalists to play a responsible role by presenting true, objective and impartial information. 
 
The journalists demanded the ban on fake identity cards, the formation of a 'media cell' by the district administration to provide immediate information, ensuring the security of journalists, and timely provision of electoral pass cards and vehicle stickers.
 
Addressing as a special guests, Civil Surgeon Dr Swapan Kumar Biswas, Additional Superintendent of Police ASM Muktaruzzaman and District Election Officer Md Alamgir Hossain highlighted various aspects of election preparations. 
 
Information Officer of Rangpur Regional Information Office of PID Md Farhad Ahmed moderated the meeting and presented important aspects of the ‘Policy for media workers responsible for election news collection, 2025’ through a documentary. 
 
Kurigram Army Camp Commander Major Md Inzamamul Alam, Chief Executive Officer of the District Council Md Firuzul Islam, Additional Deputy Commissioner B M Kudrat-e-Khuda, Sadar Upazila Nirbahi Officer Md Ismail Hossain, District Information Officer Md Shahjahan Ali and officials of the district and regional information offices were present. 
 
More than fifty journalists from various print and electronic media of Kurigram district participated in the event.
