Two held with smuggled Indian cosmetics in Jamalpur

JAMALPUR, Jan 13, 2026 (BSS) - Detective police arrested two people along with a large consignment of smuggled Indian-made cosmetics during a drive in Bakshiganj Upazila of the district this morning.

On information, a team of the Detective Branch conducted a raid in the Goalgaon Balur Char area of Bakshiganj Upazila. During the operation, police recovered Indian-made face wash and gel worth about Tk 8 lakh from two battery-run auto-rickshaws, said police sources.

The arrestees were identified as Md Abu Syeed, 35 and Md Sujan Miah, 28. Both are residents of Jalanga Madhappur village in Sreebardi Upazila of Sherpur district. They were arrested in connection with the smuggling of the cosmetics.

Officer-in-Charge of Detective Branch-2 Mohammad Ruhul Amin Talukdar said that police have strengthened surveillance in border and transit areas to prevent smuggling activities.

A case has been filed with Bakshiganj Police Station in this regard.
