NHRC selection panel formed to recommend chairperson, commissioners

DHAKA, Jan 13, 2026 (BSS) - The government has formed a six-member selection committee headed by Appellate Division Justice Farah Mahbub to make recommendation for appointments to the vacant posts of chairperson and commissioners of the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC).

Law and Justice Division issued a gazette in this connection on January 12.

"Under Section 7 of the National Human Rights Commission Ordinance, 2025, a selection committee has been constituted with the following members to make recommendations for appointments to the vacant posts of Chairperson and Commissioners of the National Human Rights Commission," the gazette said.

The other members of the selection committee are: Cabinet Secretary; Professor Dr Shahnaz Huda of the University of Dhaka's Law Department; Professor Dr Abdul Hasib Chowdhury, Pro-Vice-Chancellor of BUET; a journalist with experience in human rights reporting, nominated by the President of the National Press Club or their designate; and former Additional Chief Engineer of the Public Works Department, Kubleshawr Tripura.

Legislative and Parliamentary Affairs Division will provide secretarial assistance to the committee and the order will come into effect immediately.
