
DHAKA, Jan 13, 2026 (BSS) - The government has taken a decision to observe Martyrs’ Day and International Mother Language Day on February 21 with due respect through a series of programmes.
The Ministry of Cultural Affairs held a meeting in this regard this afternoon at the Shaheed Munier Chowdhury Hall of the Bangla Academy, said a press release of the ministry.
The release said, national flag will be hoisted at half-mast in all educational institutions as well as government, semi-government, autonomous and private buildings across the country on February 21.
To raise public awareness regarding the correct size of the flag and proper procedures for hoisting it, Bangladesh Television, Bangladesh Betar, all private television, radio channels, and the print media will be requested to broadcast and publish the relevant information.
Fateha recitation and Qurankhani will be organised at Azimpur Graveyard, and prayers will be arranged in all mosques, temples, churches and other places of worship across the country for the eternal peace of the souls of the language martyrs.
Marking the day, road islands in Dhaka city will be decorated along with festoons displaying various languages.
The metro rail will not stop its Dhaka University Station on February 20 and 21 marking the day.
Roads surrounding the Shaheed Minar will be kept clean, and uninterrupted power supply will be ensured, with generators kept ready as a backup.
On the night of 21 February, Fire Service teams with all necessary equipment will remain standby in the Central Shaheed Minar area. Arrangements will be made for safe drinking water, and medical camps will be set up in the area to ensure round-the-clock emergency medical services.
At least 20 mobile toilets will be set up at convenient locations in and around the Shaheed Minar. To prevent dust and sand, water will be sprayed in surrounding areas.
