Seminar on Selim Al Deen tomorrow

DHAKA, Jan 13, 2026 (BSS) - Marking the 18th death anniversary of eminent playwright Selim Al Deen, a seminar has been scheduled to be held tomorrow at the Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy.

Academy's Drama and Film Department will host the seminar at the National Theatre Hall at 4 pm.

Professor Lutfur Rahman of the Department of Theatre and Performance Studies of Jahangirnagar University will preside over the seminar.

Noted cultural personalities Zahid Ripon, Rubaiyat Ahmed and Abu Sayeed Tulu will take part in the discussion.

Director of the Department of Drama and Film of Shilpakala Academy, Dipak Kumar Ghoswami will moderate the event.

Associate Professor Dr Reza Mohammad Arif of the Department of Theatre and Performance Studies of Jahangirnagar University will present the keynote paper titled "Bangali Folk Tradition and Indigenous Theatre Aesthetics."

Selim Al Deen died on January 14 in 2008. 

He was a renowned Bangladeshi playwright and researcher and played a very important role in the country's theatre movement in the post-independence period.
