BAGERHAT, Jan 19, 2026 (BSS) - A discussion meeting and  doa mahfil were held today in the district marking the 90th birth anniversary of Shaheed President Ziaur Rahman.

The programme was organized at the residence of Barrister Sheikh Mohammad Zakaria Hossain, BNP-nominated candidate from Bagerhat Sadar-2 constituency, situated on the Khulna Highway. The event was arranged by Bagerhat Zila BNP along with its affiliated and associate 
organizations.

Bagerhat Zila BNP Convener Engineer ATM Akram Hossain Talmir presided over the discussion meeting, while Barrister Sheikh Mohammad Zakaria Hossain delivered the keynote 
address.

Among others, Central BNP member Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, Bagerhat Zila BNP Member Secretary Mozaffar Rahman Alam, Joint Secretary Khadem-e-Nayemul Nasri Alap and Shamsur Ali Mohan addressed the meeting. Bagerhat Municipality BNP President Sheikh Shahadat Ali Rabi, General Secretary Obaidul Islam Jewel, Sub-Convener Eskandar Hossain, and leaders and activists from district, upazila and municipal BNP and its affiliated bodies were also present.

Speakers at the meeting recalled with deep respect the illustrious political life of Shaheed President Ziaur Rahman, highlighting his role in the Liberation War and his significant contribution to establishing democracy in Bangladesh. 

Following the discussion, a special prayer (doa) was offered seeking eternal peace for the departed soul of President Ziaur Rahman. Prayers were also offered for the good health and long life of BNP Chairman Tarique Rahman, and for the continued democratic progress of Bangladesh.
