HC stays Sucsu polls for four weeks

DHAKA, Jan 19, 2026 (BSS)- The High Court (HC) today stayed the Shahjalal University Central Students Union (SUCSU) elections for four weeks.

A High Court division bench of Justice Fahmida Quader and Justice Md Ashif Hasan passed the order after hearing on a writ petition filed in this connection.

Three persons including Mominur Rashid Shuvo, a candidate for the post of vice president, filed the writ on January 18. 

Barrister Ruhul Quddus Kazal, Rashna Imam, and Moniruzzaman Asad moved the plea before the court, while Mohammad Hossain Lipu argued for the varsity. 

Additional Attorney General Aneek Rushd Haque stood for the state. The election was scheduled to be held tomorrow after a 28-year gap.
