NARSINGDI, Jan 23, 2026 (BSS) - The reconstruction work of the mural of Bir Sreshtho Matiur Rahman begun today along the Dhaka-Sylhet Highway in Mahmudabad area of Raipura upazila in Narsingdi.

Raipura Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) Md Masud Rana formally inaugurated the reconstruction work this afternoon.

Speaking on the occasion, Masud Rana said the reconstruction work of the mural has been initiated following the directives of Narsingdi Deputy Commissioner (DC) Mohammad Anowar Hossain.

He added that the reconstruction is expected to be completed before March 26 next. Bir Sreshtho Matiur Rahman's wife, Milly Rahman, will be invited to the opening ceremony upon completion of the work.

The UNO further said the previous mural had to be removed due to the expansion of the Dhaka-Sylhet highway from four lanes to six lanes but the issue was misrepresented on social media.

He said the new mural is being reconstructed beside the six-lane highway, maintaining the original design and aesthetic value, and the work will be completed within the stipulated timeframe.
