BANDARBAN, Feb 5, 2026 (BSS) - The 38 Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) on
Thursday distributed winter clothes among 250 underprivileged people from 17
villages of Thanchi Sadar Union in Bandarban.

The distribution programme was held at the Thanchi Government High School
ground around 10:00 am.

Zone Commander of 38 BGB Lieutenant Colonel Md. Yasir Arafat Hossain (BPMS)
attended the programme as the chief guest. Bolipara Zone Assistant Director
Major Md. Zakir Hossain, along with senior BGB officials and other officers
were also present on the occasion.

Later, a press briefing was held at the same venue in view of the upcoming
13th National Parliament elections.

Addressing the briefing, the zone commander said that 38 BGB is fully
prepared to carry out its responsibilities during the elections and remains
on the highest level of alert to ensure peaceful, fair and impartial polls.

As a professional, disciplined and politically neutral force, he said, the
BGB will play an active role in maintaining law and order and protecting the
voting rights of the people throughout the election period.

He further stated that 38 BGB would support the Election Commission in
ensuring a level playing field for all political parties and candidates so
that the election process remains free, fair, impartial and widely
acceptable.

Highlighting security measures, the zone commander said border security has
been strengthened ahead of the elections to prevent smuggling, illegal
infiltration, drug trafficking and arms trafficking. Enhanced patrolling,
surveillance and intelligence activities have been put in place to curb
border-related crimes.

Apart from securing the 46-kilometre border in Bandarban, a total of nine
platoons of BGB members will be deployed for election duties in Bandarban
Sadar and Thanchi upazilas, he said.

Considering potential risks, the BGB will operate as both a mobile and static
force, the zone commander added.

Special units, including the BGB K-9 Dog Squad, Rapid Action Team, Quick
Response Force and helicopter support, will remain on standby to respond to
any emergency situation.
