CHATTOGRAM, March 11, 2026 (BSS) - Chattogram Metropolitan Police (CMP) have arrested three associates of the notorious criminal group led by "Boro Sazzad" and recovered foreign-made firearms and ammunition in separate operations across the city.

The arrests occurred Tuesday afternoon in areas including Chawkbazar, Panchlaish, Bayezid Bostami, and Khulshi.

Additional Commissioner Whidul Hoque Chowdhury confirmed the successful operations at a press briefing at the CMP media center late Tuesday night.

The first arrest was made in Chawkbazar, where Abdul Kaiyum Chowdhury, also known as Rimon Imon, was apprehended. Police recovered a .32 bore revolver and nine bullets from the area, which were reportedly stolen from CMP's Pahartali Police Station.

Rimon Imon, a fugitive sentenced to life imprisonment in the Bahaddarhat eight-murder case, is also known to be an active member of the "Boro Sazzad" group.

Acting on information provided by Rimon Imon, Panchlaish police arrested another associate, Monir, seizing a Brazilian Taurus 9mm pistol and a motorcycle. The pistol had been stolen from CMP's Double Mooring Police Station.

Following Monir's lead, police arrested a third associate, Sayem, in Bayezid Bostami. Subsequent raids in Khulshi led to the recovery of a submachine gun, two magazines, and 50 rounds of ammunition, reportedly obtained from an armed hill group in Khagrachhari.

Monir and Sayem are implicated in ten cases, including murder, robbery, extortion, and Arms Act violations, and are recognized as active members of the "Boro Sazzad" group.

The three arrested suspects are believed to be involved in a recent shooting at the residence of a prominent businessman in Chandannpura under Chawkbazar Police Station, with Rimon Imon identified as the mastermind and coordinator.

CMP authorities said operations are ongoing to apprehend other members of the group and recover additional weapons.
