Meeting held to make safe Eid travel from Mohakhali

DHAKA, Mar 11, 2026 (BSS)- A meeting was held with transport owners and workers at Mohakhali Bus Terminal to ensure safe, smooth and extortion-free travel for homebound passengers ahead of the upcoming Eid-ul-Fitr.

The meeting was held at Mohakhali Bus Terminal here today with Member of Parliament Advocate Samsur Rahman Shimul Biswas as the chief guest.

Acting Commissioner of the Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) Md. Sarwar and President of the Dhaka Road Transport Owners Association M A Baten and Saiful Alam, Secretary General of the Bangladesh Road Transport Owners Association and General Secretary of the Dhaka Road Transport Owners Association were present.
 
The meeting was chaired by Abul Kalam Azad, Executive President of the Mohakhali Bus Terminal Owners Association. Transport owners, workers’ representatives and members from various related organizations were also present.

Speaking at the event, Advocate Samsur Rahman Shimul Biswas said that a large number of people travel from the capital to different districts across the country during Eid. He stressed the need for taking collective efforts to ensure passenger’s safety and to prevent overcharging of fares and extortion.

DMP’s Acting Commissioner Md. Sarwar said that police have taken necessary measures to ensure a smooth Eid journey. Surveillance at bus terminals and major roads will be strengthened and immediate action will be taken if any complaints of extortion or passenger harassment are received.

The meeting emphasized strengthening coordination among the transport owners, workers and law enforcement agencies to ensure safe, disciplined and hassle-free travel during the Eid holidays.
