NARAIL, March 11, 2026 (BSS) - The government initiative has begun in the district to provide milk, eggs, and meat at affordable prices for poor and needy residents during the holy month of Ramadan.
The programme began on Wednesday morning at the District Livestock Office premises and will continue until Monday, March 16. Every day, meat and eggs will be sold from 10:00 am to 12:00 noon, depending on stock availability.
Under the initiative, beef is being sold at Taka 650 per kilogram, broiler chicken at Taka 245 per kilogram, and chicken eggs at Taka 8 per piece, offering residents the opportunity to purchase essential protein items at lower prices.
The programme was officially inaugurated by Additional District Magistrate Lincoln Biswas at 10:00 am on Wednesday.
The event was presided over by District Livestock Officer Dr. Md. Rashedul Haque. Among others present were District Fisheries Officer Md. Mahbubur Rahman, Additional Deputy Director of the Department of Agricultural Extension Md. Jahidul Islam Biswas, and Sadar Upazila Livestock Officer Debashish Kumar Kundu.
Speaking at the event, Dr. Rashedul Haque said the initiative aims to ensure that residents can purchase meat and eggs at reasonable prices during the holy month.
He added that the Department of Livestock has taken this step to support consumers by making essential food items more accessible.
