World Consumer Rights Day observed in Rangpur

RANGPUR, March 15, 2026 (BSS) – World Consumer Rights Day 2026 was observed in Rangpur with a call to ensure that food and other products remain safe and of high quality for consumers.

A discussion meeting was held at the conference room of the Rangpur Deputy Commissioner today to mark the occasion.

Rangpur Deputy Commissioner Mohammad Enamul Ahsan presided over the programme, which was jointly organized by the Rangpur district administration and the Directorate of National Consumer Rights Protection.

In his speech, the Deputy Commissioner emphasized the importance of observing World Consumer Rights Day for all citizens.

“It is our responsibility to ensure that the food and other products we obtain from nature are safe and of high quality,” he said.

Speaking on mobile courts and market supervision, he noted that the district administration and the Directorate of Consumer Rights Protection are continuously operating mobile courts to safeguard consumer rights.

He added that during the Eid-ul-Fitr season, the production and sale of various food products, including semai, are under special surveillance.

Referring to the Consumer Rights Protection Act, 2009, the Deputy Commissioner said strict punishments are in place for producing adulterated products, selling goods below or above prescribed prices, or selling expired medicines.

“In this regard, alongside law enforcement, raising public awareness is equally important,” he said, urging all stakeholders to ensure fair and safe food and other products for consumers.

Rangpur Additional Deputy Commissioner Christafar Himel Richil moderated the programme.

Other participants included Rangpur Additional Superintendent of Police Md Joynal Abedin, Rangpur Assistant Director of the Directorate of National Consumer Rights Protection Md Mostafizur Rahman, President of Rangpur Consumers Association of Bangladesh (CAB) Md Abdur Rahman, and Director of Rangpur Chamber of Commerce and Industry Partha Ghosh.

Government officials, representatives of business organizations, and journalists were also present at the discussion.
