GAZIPUR, May 10, 2026 (BSS) - With the swift initiatives of the Gazipur Deputy Commissioner (DC), the bodies of five victims of a family, who were killed in Kapasia on Friday, were buried in their own district, Gopalganj, this morning.

The bodies of the deceased reached their home in Paikkandi village of Gopalganj sadar upazila at 6:30 am today. They were buried at local Uttar Charpara graveyard after their namaz-e-janaza at Paikkandi Panchapalli Madrasah ground at about 11 am.

The deceased in the tragic killing were: Sharmin Khanam (35), her brother Rasul (22), and her three daughters Mim (16), Maria (08) and Faria (02).

Officials said relatives of the deceased and a large number of locals attended the janaza.

On Saturday morning, police recovered the blood-strain bodies of the five victims from a rented house in Rautkona Purbapara village of Kapasia sadar upazila. Two persons involved in the car business of suspected killer Forkan Miah have already been detained for questioning, police said.

Police did not disclose the names of the detainees immediately.

According to locals and police, the accused Forkan Miah brutally killed his wife, three daughters and brother-in-law and fled away. Before fleeing, Forkan confessed to his relatives about the murders via his mobile phone. Several chargesheets typed on a computer, notes, liquor and signs of drug use were recovered from the spot.

When the shadow of mourning fell on Kapasia due to the sensational killing of five members of the same family, the local administration stood by the bereaved family. Gazipur Deputy Commissioner (DC) Md Nurul Karim Bhuiyan took swift action to complete the autopsy quickly and took steps to send the bodies of the deceased to their relatives in Gopalganj from Gazipur.

On information, top officials of the administration rushed immediately to the spot on the instructions of the Deputy Commissioner. Additional District Magistrate Salma Khatun, Kapasia Upazila Nirbahi Officer Tamanna Tasneem, Assistant Commissioner (Land) Md Nahidul Haque and two executive magistrates of the district administration arrived on the spot and inquired about the bereaved family.

Usually, autopsies are closed after 2 pm at Shaheed Tajuddin Ahmed Medical College Hospital in Gazipur. But, due to the gravity of the incident and the fear of rapid decomposition due to the injuries of the bodies, the DC took the initiative himself and contacted the concerned doctors and made special arrangements to complete the autopsy of five bodies by Saturday night.

Initially, a pick-up van was considered to take the bodies to Gopalganj. But, considering the adverse weather and the long distance, Nurul Karim Bhuiyan arranged two state-of-the-art freezing vans under his personal supervision. Besides, he also made arrangements to bear all the expenses related to burial and transportation of the bodies.

When the freezing van carrying the bodies of the deceased left for Gopalganj late Saturday night, the witnesses present there praised the humane behaviour of the administration. According to the locals, such a swift and sensitive step by the district administration at this difficult time of mourning for a family has given hope to the people.

Kapasia Police Station Officer-in-Charge Shahinur Alam told BSS that initially, it was believed that the murders were committed over a family feud. The recovered documents, drugs and other evidence were being examined and several police teams have been working in the field to hold suspect Forkan Miah, he said.

Gazipur Additional Superintendent of Police (Kapasia-Kaliganj Circle), Mohammad Asaduzzaman said, “This is a very sensitive and brutal incident. The police, PBI, DB and CID are working together to uncover the real reason behind the incident.”

Gazipur Superintendent of Police, Md Sharif Uddin said five members of the same family were brutally killed, which very tragic.

“The incident is being investigated with utmost importance. Along with the district police, various units, including DB, CID and PBI, are working in coordination. Two people are being interrogated to collect important information about the killer. We are hopeful that the main mystery behind the killings will be unraveled and those involved in the incident will be brought to justice very soon," he said.
