DHAKA, May 10, 2026 (BSS) – A court here today ordered the seizure of tax files of former state ministers Zakir Hossain and Meher Afroz Chumki; former lawmakers Jahid Ahsan Russel and Sheikh Helal Uddin; Sheikh Helal’s wife Sheikh Rupa Chowdhury; Tomal Monsur; and Jinat Pervin Chowdhury, wife of former chief whip Nur-e-Alam Chowdhury. 
 
Dhaka Metropolitan Senior Special Judge Md Sabbir Faiz passed the order, allowing seven separate pleas of the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC). 
 
The petition stated that separate cases have been filed against the accused under Section 27(1) of the Anti-Corruption Commission Act, 2004, Sections 4(2) and 4(3) of the Money Laundering Prevention Act, 2012, and Section 5(2) of the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1947.
 
“For the sake of a proper investigation, it is essential to seize and examine all their income tax returns and related records,” the ACC said.
