
CHATTOGRAM, May 19, 2026 (BSS) - The National Consumer Rights Protection Department today fined four business establishments in Agrabad and Mohra areas of Chattogram a total of Tk 80,000 for selling unhygienic and expired food items.
The drive was conducted jointly by the Chattogram Divisional and District Offices of the National Consumer Rights Protection Department in collaboration with Chattogram Metropolitan Police.
The operation was led by Mohammad Faiz Ullah, Deputy Director of the National Consumer Rights Protection Department, with assistant directors Md Anisur Rahman, Mahmuda Akhter, and Rana Debnath present during the drive.
According to officials, the establishments were penalised for preparing food in unsanitary conditions, storing stale items, and selling expired products.
In Agrabad, Lemon Grass Restaurant was fined Tk 30,000 for producing food in an unhygienic environment. Another restaurant, Kacchi Dine, was fined Tk 20,000 for preparing and storing food in unsanitary conditions.
In Mohra area, Mohra Hotel was fined Tk 10,000 for selling stale burgers and Mughlai items kept in deep freezers, along with expired yoghurt, while also maintaining unhygienic food preparation practices. Another establishment, Sizzle, was fined Tk 20,000 for selling expired sweets after altering product labels.
Officials said regular market monitoring will continue to ensure food safety and protect consumer rights, and instructed all food businesses to strictly follow hygiene standards in preparation and service.
