92-year-old man killed in Satkhira accident, two detained

SATKHIRA, May 31, 2026 (BSS) - A 92-year-old man was killed after being struck by a motorcycle in Shankarkati Jelepara area on Shyamnagar-Kashimari road in Shyamnagar upazila of the district at around 7 pm on Saturday. 

The deceased, Ansar Ali Morol, was the son of late Akim Ali Morol of Shankarkati village in Kashimari union under Shyamnagar upazila.

Police have detained two youths, including the motorcyclist, in connection with the incident.

The detained youths were identified as Sohel Rana Babu, 17, son of Shahidullah, and Selim Hossains, 17, son of Abdul Hamid, both residents of Kashimari Union.

According to victim's son Nur Hossain and eyewitnesses, Ansar Ali Morol was walking home after offering Maghrib prayers at a local mosque and having tea at a nearby tea stall. At that time, a motorcycle traveling from Shyamnagar town toward Kashimari struck him leaving him seriously injured.

Local residents rescued him and took him to the Upazila Health Complex, where the on-duty doctor provided emergency treatment. 

As his condition deteriorated, he was referred to Satkhira Medical College Hospital for advanced treatment. However, he died on the way to the hospital.

Dr. Shakir Hossain, an emergency department physician at Shyamnagar Upazila Health Complex, said that the injured elderly man was brought to the hospital at around 7:30 pm on Saturday. 

Officer-in-Charge (OC) Khaledur Rahman of Shyamnagar Police Station confirmed the incident saying a case is underway in connection with the incident.
