CHATTOGRAM, May 30, 2026 (BSS) - Chattogram City Corporation (CCC) Mayor Dr. Shahadat Hossain on Saturday said anti-development forces are engaged in various conspiracies to hinder the country's progress and democratic advancement.

He called for national unity, inspired by the spirit of the Liberation War and the ideals of Shaheed President Ziaur Rahman to thwart such conspiracies and sustain the country's development journey.

The was paying tribute to BNP founder Shaheed President Ziaur Rahman, Bir Uttam, marking his 45th martyrdom anniversary at the historic Biplob Udyan in the city's Sholashahar area.

Describing Biplob Udyan as a familiar site closely associated with Bangladesh's War of Independence, Dr. Shahadat said the site holds immense historical significance.

"On the night of March 25, 1971, Shaheed President Ziaur Rahman called for resistance against the Pakistani occupation forces from this very place. The following day, he inspired the nation to join the Liberation War by proclaiming the country's independence from the Kalurghat radio station," he said.

Ziaur Rahman's leadership, patriotism and courage would remain forever embedded in the nation's history of independence, he added.

Expressing concern over what he termed efforts to distort the true spirit of the Liberation War, the mayor said, "We are witnessing attempts to misrepresent the genuine ideals of the Liberation War in various ways. We want a Bangladesh founded on equality, justice, democracy and human values."

He urged all citizens to work together to realize the vision of a discrimination-free, just and prosperous Bangladesh as envisioned by Shaheed Ziaur Rahman.

Chattogram Sammilit Peshajibi Parishad Convener and journalist Zahidul Karim Kochi, Chattogram WASA Managing Director and AEB President Engineer Selim Mohammad Jane Alam, city council members Gazi Md. Siraj Ullah and Md. Kamrul Islam, BNP leader Dr. Golam Quader Chowdhury Noble and Mohammad Idris Ali, among other, leaders and activists were present.
