MOSCOW, May 29, 2026 (BSS/AFP) - A man was killed on Friday in southern Russia in a Ukrainian drone attack on a chemical factory, regional authorities said in a statement.

"A 60-year-old man was killed in a synthetic fibre company" in Volzhsky following "a drone attack by the Kyiv regime," Andrey Bocharov, governor of the Volgograd region, said.

A 55-year-old woman was seriously wounded and hospitalised during the attack, which sparked a fire at the factory, as well as numerous other sites, he said, adding that all the fires were put out.

Russia's defence ministry said it had intercepted 208 Ukrainian drones overnight.

In response to daily bombardments since Russia sent troops into Ukraine in 2022, Kyiv has regularly struck within Russian territory, saying it is targeting energy facilities in a bid to dent Russia's oil revenues.
