DHAKA, May 29, 2026 (BSS) - Prime Minister Tarique Rahman has ordered disciplinary action and temporary suspension of two zonal executive officers (ZEOs) of Dhaka North and South City Corporations over negligence in removing sacrificial animal waste from several areas of the capital.

State Minister for Local Government, Rural Development (LGRD) and Cooperatives Mir Shahe Alam said the prime minister inspected various development projects and waste management activities across Dhaka from 2:00 pm to 6:00 pm today without official protocol.

During the inspection, Tarique Rahman expressed dissatisfaction over the poor state of waste removal in areas including Hatirpool, Elephant Road, Green Road, Farmgate and Karwan Bazar, where sacrificial animal waste and previously accumulated garbage were found scattered on roads and streets, Alam said.

Following the premier's directive, two zonal executive officers of the Dhaka North and South City Corporations were immediately attached to the Ministry of Public Administration, while departmental proceedings were initiated against them for negligence in duty.

The suspended officials are Md Sadekur Rahman, ZEO of Zone-5 of Dhaka North City Corporation and Kazi Saleh Mustanzir, ZEO of Zone-1 of Dhaka South City Corporation. Both officials hold the rank of deputy secretary.

Prime Minister's Deputy Press Secretary Jahidul Islam Rony said Tarique Rahman personally drove through different roads in the capital to inspect the ongoing waste removal activities.

He said State Minister Mir Shahe Alam accompanied the prime minister during the visit.

Dhaka South City Corporation Administrator Md Abdus Salam, BNP National Executive Committee Special Secretary Muhammad Belayet Hossain Mirda and the Prime Minister's Private Secretary-2 Md Mehedul Islam also accompanied the premier during the inspection.
