BAGERHAT, May 29, 2026 (BSS) – To mark the 45th martyrdom anniversary of Shaheed President Ziaur Rahman, Forests, Environment and Climate Change State Minister Lion Sheikh Faridul Islam gifted a newly constructed house to a homeless woman, Hira Akhter, in Bagerhat's Mongla Municipality.

The State Minister personally handed over the home before the Jumma prayers today, in the presence of local public representatives, social leaders and community dignitaries.

"No one in my constituency will remain homeless," Sheikh Faridul Islam said during the handover. "All landless and distressed families will be rehabilitated in phases using government khas (government-owned) and abandoned lands."

He added that the government is focusing on making these vulnerable families self-reliant through integrated livelihood programs, including fish farming, agricultural cultivation on abandoned land, cattle rearing and small entrepreneurship support.

Given the coastal region's vulnerability to climate change, the minister emphasized that these initiatives combine eco-friendly housing with social security and employment to ensure sustainable living standards for disadvantaged communities.

Local residents welcomed the initiative, praising it as a timely and humane effort that will bring positive change to the area's underprivileged population.
