KHULNA, May 29, 2026 (BSS) - The Khulna City Corporation (KCC) successfully cleared all animal waste from the city within eight hours of the Eid-ul-Azha sacrifices on Thursday.

A team of over 950 workers launched the cleanup drive at 2:00 pm on Eid day and wrapped up operations by 10:00 pm. To support the massive effort, the KCC deployed a fleet of 85 vehicles including 76 trucks and six container movers alongside 16 dedicated waste-removal units operating across the city's 31 wards.

The conservancy department utilized 4,500 kg of bleaching powder and 450 liters of antiseptic fluid (Savlon) to clean and sanitize the streets. Additionally, the KCC distributed 10,000 eco-friendly garbage bags to residents and allocated Taka 5,000 to each ward secretary to fund local cleaning efforts.

To ensure the drive ran smoothly, the KCC established 140 designated slaughtering spots ahead of the festival, launched community awareness campaigns and set up a central control room. Vigilance teams, ward secretaries and conservancy supervisors monitored the operations on the ground.

KCC Administrator Nazrul Islam Manju, who visited several neighborhoods to inspect the progress, noted that residents sacrificed roughly 7,000 animals this year.

"Though it was a challenging task to clean the city within eight hours, our workers successfully got the job done," Manju said.
