Ziaur Rahman inspired nation by declaring independence: Tuku

TANGAIL, May 30, 2026(BSS) - State Minister for Fisheries and Livestock Sultana Salahuddin Tuku today said that Shaheed President Ziaur Rahman declared the independence on March 26 from the Kalurghat radio station and inspired the nation to join the War of Liberation. 

He said that through his declaration, Bangladesh achieved independence. His leadership, patriotism and courage remain unforgettable in the history of the independence. “We want to continue our journey by holding his ideals in our hearts,” he added.

The state minister made these remarks while addressing a discussion and doa mahfil organized by the district BNP at a community center here marking the 45th death anniversary of Shaheed President Ziaur Rahman as the chief guest.

He said that Ziaur Rahman was a multifaceted personality. His contributions to the declaration of independence, the Liberation War, restoration of democracy, economic development and protection of national interests continue to inspire the nation.

He said that now, a political party is attempting in various ways to distort the true spirit of the Liberation War.

“We want such a Bangladesh where equality, justice, democracy and human values are established. Holding on to Ziaur Rahman’s patriotism, honesty and ideals, everyone must work together to build a corruption-free, self-reliant and prosperous Bangladesh,” he added.

The meeting was chaired by district BNP President Hasanuzzaman Shahin where former member secretary of district BNP Mahmudul Haque Sanu, former joint secretary Kazi Shafiqur Rahman Liton, former organizational secretary Shafiqur Rahman Shafiq and sadar upazila BNP President Azgar Ali also spoke.

Leaders and activists from BNP, BNP’s Women wing, Jubo Dal, Swechchhasebak Dal, Chhatra Dal and Tanti Dal were present at the program. The event concluded with prayers seeking eternal peace for the soul of martyred President Ziaur Rahman.
