COX’S BAZAR, June 4, 2026 (BSS) - Two construction workers were killed and another was injured after being buried under a landslide during the construction of a bridge at Dariyanagar area of the district here this afternoon.

The accident occurred at around 1:00 pm while the workers were engaged in construction activities near a hillside of the area.

The deceased were identified as Mohammad Ilias, son of Jafar Ahmed and Mohammad Rakib, son of Nasir Ahmed. Both were residents of Banshkhali Upazila of Chattogram district. The injured worker Mohammad Shahjahan is also from the same area.

According to local sources, Syed Muhammad Morshed Hossain, Deputy Assistant Director of the Cox’s Bazar Fire Service and Civil Defence Station, said that a contractor firm ‘Lucky Enterprise’ was constructing a bridge over a channel used for the flow of hill water on the access road to Victoria University at Dariyanagar.

He said soil had been excavated from the side of a hill as part of the construction work. During the operation, a section of the hillside suddenly collapsed, trapping three workers beneath the debris. Fellow workers rescued them and rushed them to Cox's Bazar Sadar Hospital. Fire service personnel later arrived at the scene.

Abdur Rahim Majumdar, a representative of the contractor firm, said the workers had been following safety procedures when the incident occurred. He added that all the victims had been working on the project for nearly a month.

Dr. Subaktagin Mohammad Sohel, Resident Medical Officer of Cox’s Bazar Sadar Hospital, said three workers were brought to the hospital in critical condition. Two of them had died before reaching the hospital.

Inspector (Investigation) Hemel Roy of Cox's Bazar Model Police Station said the bodies had been kept at the hospital morgue for autopsy and legal procedures were underway.
