Abducted youth rescued in Netrakona, two detained

NETROKONA, June 7, 2026 (BSS) - Police, with the help of local residents rescued an abducted youth and detained two members of an abduction gang in Kalmakanda upazila of the district this afternoon.

The incident occurred at Ambari Bazar in Pogla union under Kalmakanda upazila.

The rescued youth was identified as Sohrab Hossain, 28, son of Md. Wares Ali of Chandrapur Palpara village under Barhatta upazila of the district.

The detained individuals were Md. Sijon Mia, 35, and Md. Sujat Mia, 33, both residents of Thakurakona village under Netrakona Sadar upazila.

Police said a motorcycle and a pair of handcuffs used in the crime were seized from their possession.

According to police and local sources, a group of men picked up Sohrab Hossain from the Chiram union area of Barhatta upazila in the morning, introducing themselves as members of a law enforcement agency. The abductors then took him to the Ambari area in Kalmakanda.

Locals became suspicious and confronted the group, managing to rescue the victim on the spot. They also managed to detain two members of the gang, while others fled the scene on motorcycles.

Police later reached the spot and took the detained suspects into custody.

Kalmakanda Police Station Inspector (Investigation) Sajal Sarkar confirmed the incident.

He said police conducted an immediate operation after receiving the information and rescued the abducted youth safely and unharmed.

He added that the detained individuals were impersonating law enforcement officers and that a pair of handcuffs and a motorcycle used to intimidate people were seized.

"The process of taking legal action against those involved is underway," he said.
