Shamsuzzaman Samu appointed first RpDA Chairman

RANGPUR, June 12, 2026 (BSS) - The government has appointed Rangpur Metropolitan BNP Convener Shamsuzzaman Samu as the first Chairman of Rangpur Development Authority (RpDA).
 
The appointment was announced through a gazette notification issued by the Contract and Foreign Recruitment Wing of the Ministry of Public Administration on Thursday.
 
According to the notification, Samu will serve as the chairman of the authority in Grade-2 rank for one year from the date of joining.
 
The Rangpur Development Authority was formed under the Rangpur Development Authority Ordinance, 2025.

The Ministry of Housing and Public Works issued a notification on the formation of the authority on January 12 this year, while an amendment ordinance was promulgated on January 20.
 
Following his appointment, newly appointed RpDA Chairman Shamsuzzaman Samu thanked Prime Minister Tarique Rahman.
 
He expressed his determination to build a modern and planned city with the participation of people from all walks of life.
