CHAPAINAWABGANJ, June 12, 2026 (BSS) - A mobile court and joint administration team conducted a drive today to evict illegal shops and remove unauthorized structures built on public roads in Kansat under Shibganj upazila, aiming to restore order in the well-known Kansat Mango Market.

The operation was carried out at noon under the supervision of Shibganj Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) Mazharul Islam.

Officials from the Directorate of National Consumer Rights Protection and the Bangladesh Food Safety Authority also took part in the joint drive.

During the operation, several roadside shops occupying the Kansat-Gopalnagar intersection and adjacent areas were removed. Illegal structures inside the mango market zone were also demolished as part of the eviction effort.

Authorities also imposed fines on a number of traders for violating regulations and issued warnings against further encroachment or unlawful business practices in the area.

UNO Mazharul Islam said illegal occupiers had long been running businesses by encroaching on roads and public spaces in and around the mango market.

"These structures have been removed to protect public interest and ensure smooth vehicular movement. Those found violating rules have been penalized, while others have been warned," he said.

He added that such drives would continue in the future in the public interest and reiterated that there would be no scope for occupying government land or public roads illegally.

"Legal action will be taken against anyone involved in such activities in the future," he said.

He also said stakeholders had been instructed to follow decisions taken at the divisional level regarding mango management and marketing.

Shibganj Assistant Commissioner (Land) Toufiq Aziz, District Agricultural Marketing Officer Mominul Haque, Assistant Director of the Directorate of National Consumer Rights Protection in Chapainawabganj Fazle Elahi, District Food Safety Officer Abdullah Al Mamun, and Kansat Union Parishad Chairman Shefaul Mulk were present during the drive.

Members of the police, Ansar, and village police assisted in maintaining law and order during the operation.
