KHULNA, June 26, 2026 (BSS)- Holy Ashura was observed in Khulna with due religious solemnity as Anjuman-e-Panjatani Trust organised a 10-day mourning programme marking the martyrdom of Imam Hussain (AS) and his companions at Karbala.

The programme on 1-10 Muharram, commemorated the supreme sacrifice of Imam Hussain (AS), the beloved grandson of Prophet Hazrat Muhammad (PBUH), and his 72 companions, who embraced martyrdom at Karbala around 1,400 years ago while upholding truth and justice.
Principal of Islami Shikkha Kendra Hujjatul Islam Syed Ibrahim Khalil Rajavi addressed the daily discussion sessions as the keynote speaker.

On the concluding day, a mourning procession was brought out from Qasr-e-Hossaini Imambara at Altapol Lane in the city.

Addressing a discussion meeting before the procession, Rajavi said the tragedy of Karbala carries profound lessons for Muslims, inspiring them never to compromise with falsehood and injustice while upholding the banner of truth.

He said the sacrifice of Imam Hussain (AS) was not a struggle for power but an eternal fight of truth against falsehood and the oppressed against tyranny.

Rajavi also said that despite the passage of centuries, the significance and dignity of the Karbala tragedy have remained undiminished, adding that the spirit of Ashura continues to spread across the world.

Referring to the current global situation, he described Zionism as a major centre of injustice and said, "Today's Gaza resembles another Karbala of the modern era," urging followers of the ideals of Imam Hussain (AS) to stand beside the oppressed people of Gaza and raise their voices against Israeli aggression.

Speaking as the chief guest, Khulna city BNP President and KDA Chairman Advocate Shafiqul Alam Mona said the spirit of Karbala teaches Muslims to overcome divisions and remain united against injustice.
