COX'S BAZAR, June 28, 2026 (BSS)-Two motorcyclists were killed and another injured seriously after a microbus collided with their bike at Mohajerpara area at Baraitali union under Chakaria upazila of the district here this morning.

The accident occurred at around 8:45 am on the Banouja-Pekua Road.

The deceased were identified as Mohammad Mahbub, 27, son of late Abul Kalam, and Mohammad Rasel, 23, son of late Kamal Hossain. Both were residents of Mohajerpara and travelling on the motorcycle. Another rider, Mohammad Shahed, 24, sustained serious injuries and was admitted to a local hospital for treatment.

According to eyewitnesses, Mahbub was riding the motorcycle with Rasel and Shahed as passengers. As the motorcycle entered the main Banouja-Pekua Road from a village road, it collided with a microbus that was travelling towards Pekua from the Baraitali road intersection.

Mahbub died on the spot, while Rasel succumbed to his injuries after being taken to Chakaria Upazila Health Complex. Shahed remained under treatment at a local hospital.

Local resident Rakibul Hasan said a large stack of timber beside the main road obstructed the view of vehicles entering from Mohajerpara, making it difficult for drivers to see oncoming traffic. He said the obstruction was a likely cause of the crash.

Baraitali Union Parishad member Shahidul Islam confirmed the deaths, saying both the victims were from the same locality, casting a pall of grief over the area.

Officer-in-Charge of Chakaria Police Station Mohammad Monir Hossain said inquest reports had been prepared for the two bodies. He added that the victims' families had requested permission to bury them without autopsies. If no formal complaint is filed by the families, police will take further action in accordance with the law.
