DHAKA, June 27, 2026 (BSS) - Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) seized two foreign-made pistols, four magazines, six rounds of ammunition and 24 bottles of Indian Eskuf syrup during an anti-smuggling operation at the Maheshpur border in Jhenaidah.

A patrol team from the Samanta Border Outpost (BOP), led by Subedar Md Omar Ali, conducted the raid around 4:40am, said a press release signed by Munsi Imdadur Rahman, Assistant Director of 58 BGB.

During the drive, the BGB team spotted two unidentified smugglers near Belehati village, roughly 300 yards inside Bangladeshi territory from border pillar 57/1-S. When chased, the smugglers dropped a white plastic bag into a nearby bush and fled across the zero line into India.

Upon searching the abandoned bag, BGB personnel discovered a carton containing two Italy-made pistols, the ammunition and the contraband syrup.

A case is being filed, and the seized firearms and goods are being handed over to the Maheshpur Police Station, said the press release.
