One held with 16 maunds of stolen copper cables in Rangpur

RANGPUR, July 14, 2026 (BSS) - The Detective Branch (DB) of Rangpur Metropolitan Police (RpMP) in an operation on Monday night arrested one person with 16 maunds of stolen copper electrical cables and a truck from the Satmatha area of the city.
 

“The arrested man is Ukil Mia, son of Helal Mia of the Alamnagar area in the metropolis,” Deputy Commissioner (DC) of Police (DB) of RpMP Sanatan Chakraborty told BSS. 
 

Sanatan Chakraborty said that electrical cables of the electricity departments like REB, government hospitals, mosques and houses were being stolen for some time now. 
 

“At one stage of the investigation, a raid was conducted based on a tip-off and these cables hidden inside a pile of scrap metal in a truck were seized and one person involved in the incident was arrested,” he said. 
 
Operations are ongoing to arrest other members of the gang. 
 

“We have taken necessary legal action in this incident,” he said, and urged all citizens to cooperate with the police by providing any information related to crime.
 

In this regard, the RpMP Commissioner said that no matter how many strategies the criminals adopt, there is no opportunity to escape. Strict legal action will be taken against any person or gang involved in the transportation, storage or sale of stolen goods. 
 

“The RpMP's operation will be further strengthened to control crime and ensure public safety in Rangpur metropolis."
